The room - how to get out

When you have checked the emergency exit you should inspect the room. You should always put the keys or the card of the room at the same place so that you know where they are.

Go to the window and check how it is opened. Does it go inwards, outwards or it is folded in the middle?

Check what you see from the window. How high up are you? Is there a balcony?. If it is not possible to open the window, see to it that you have an emergency hammer (provided in Escape Kit) or something else which is sharp, e.g. a highheeled lady´s shoe in order to break the window. If this should be necessary, hit in the corner of the window pane; never in the middle where the pane is most flexible.

If you have an Escape Kit with an evacuation rope check where you can fasten it - if there is no hook above the window search for other fastening possibilities, e.g. a wall heater, a sturdy door handle or throw the rope around the bed!

Check the bath room. Is there a ventilator ? In case the room is filled with smoke you must turn it on in order to get the smoke out. Check if the shower hose can be unlocked. If you are caught in the room by the smoke, you can use the shower hose in order to breathe. Put one end of the hose in the toilet, let it pass the water lock and out into the sewrage. Blow the water out of the hose and breathe the oxygen from the sewerage. Not very pleasant, but you survive!

If you choose to leave the room check if the door facing the lobby is hot. The heat is a sign that there is a fire closeby.
